How to Protect Your VPS and Cloud Servers from Cyber Security Issues

Protecting your VPS and cloud servers is critical to keeping your sensitive information safe. Along with protecting your sensitive data, it also contributes to your organization being able to securely continue its business activities. As cyber threats become increasingly more advanced, it has become a top priority for every organization to have strong security measures in place.

Regular Updates:

Always keep your operating system, control panel, and applications up to date. Security patches patch vulnerabilities that hackers typically take advantage of in order to gain access.

Strong Authentication:

Set up strong passwords and enable or turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) to stop unauthorized logins from occurring. Limit root access, and create separate user accounts with restricted privileges.

Firewall and Network Protection:

Setup a strong firewall to filter traffic, and block malicious IP addresses. Employ tools like Fail2Ban to help automatically block login attempts that are being repeated. If remote access is being used, enabling a VPN adds further encryption.

Regular Backups:

Automate regular Backup your of your data to off-site storage or a secure cloud location. If breaches happen, or files become corrupted, your backups allow you to resume operational status without the loss of data.

Malware and DDoS Protection:

Utilize and implement antivirus software and DDoS protection to protect against attacks from malicious actors that can overload your server. Also, implement monitoring tools to detect abnormal behavior as early as possible.

Encryption of Data:

Always use SSL/TLS certificates for secure data in motion and encrypt any sensitive files that are at rest.

By utilizing these proactive security measures, you are essentially making your VPS and cloud servers less vulnerable to the evolving nature of cyber risks and ensuring continued reliability in the long-run.
